“We can conduct Risk Management training.” I was told that revenue from training is a low-hanging fruit. When Victory first started, we wanted to help SMEs build Risk Management frameworks. Why? We predict that it will be an integral part of business (this was pre-Covid*), and there were few consultancy firms specializing in Risk Management. The big boys were charging a fair bit, so we wanted to fill that void for SMEs who may not have the budget to get started. Risk Management training, of course, would have to complement the framework.
Happily, Keng Hwee and I registered for Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP).
Covid came, and it was a blessing to me! Why? The classes were moved partially online – perfect for someone who suffers from motion sickness. I live in Chua Chu Kang (CCK), and no matter taxi/MRT/bus, the journey to Eunos would make me dizzy.
ACLP was tough. I wanted to give up several times, but I was lucky to have met Eric. Bless him for being the big-hearted person that he is, and I give all the credit to him for my being able to graduate. I owe him a lot for the time that he spent practicing and practicing with me on my presentations. For those who are thinking of taking ACLP, teamwork is very important. Karen, Delia, Lay Kuan, thank you all! Non-Singhealth group, you all rock!
I got to know 2, in my opinion, World-class Facilitators during my time in Institute of Adult Learning (IAL). They are Christina and Linda. Their classes were super engaging and left a lasting deep impression on us. I wanted Team Victory to be trainers just like them. I wrote in *** that I once attended a digital marketer training, and I totally agree with his wise words: “Other people out there have already tried and tested. If you want to be in the digital marketing game, you can model after their success. Because you need to be fast in the digital marketing game, you don’t have time for trial-and-error.”
Indeed, this is true. Look at me model after my esteemed Feng Shui Master who is so very generous in spirit. And now I am writing inspirational articles too, just like her. She is my idol, and I am proud to model myself after her.
Can World-class faciltators be modelled after? I think the answer is Yes! We can learn the techniques. How? By engaging the Facilitator to give us a crash course on Train-The-Trainer (TTT).
Can we self-learn how to be great facilitators over time? The answer is also Yes! Anything is possible, we can even walk from Singapore to Thailand, if we wish. Linda shared with us her textbook on Facilitation **** that she had to study when she was doing her Masters.
But what is it that Victory wants to do? We are not studying to enrol for the same Masters program! As I wrote in risk of not knowing the tools available, reading that book is Linda’s dough. Our dough is in conducting Risk Management training!
*post-Covid: Risk Management must be looked into by both individuals and corporates.
