How To Use Money To Make Money
Blog

The risk of not knowing the tools available whether in the metaphysics world, or in the financial world, or in the internet world means that you might miss out on the short-cuts to success. But before you rush off to call someone, I would also like to recommend that you take a look at which stage of life you are at. Let me tell you my experience with insurance agents when I first started work. At that time, they were called "insurance agents". I suppose that back then, nobody thought that these salespeople should be trained to do more than to sell insurance products.

So here I was still in the rat race. Life was very tough. I was newly married, we were both struggling to get a foothold in our jobs, and this is not related, but I was pimply and fat. We had little money, but as soon as I had meagre savings, my mum would nag me to "save money", "buy insurance", "better save for a rainy day", "better buy some insurance (it was common practice for all and sundry to buy insurance then)".

I was going under from the burden of buying decent office wear, buying food to sustain myself and on top of that, returning mum money for my education. I met up with my insurance agent thinking that I had to (forced by mum's constant nagging) set aside $100 per month to buy that @#$% insurance policy! The agent somehow convinced me that I could set aside $150 per month to buy a 'higher amount of coverage'. She calculated the risks of not having enough when the hospital bills come. What's the point of buying coverage if you have insufficient coverage?

I got cold feet on the day of signing the application form, and I avoided her phone calls. I felt bad. Since then, I avoided insurance agents. It's not because I did not want insurance, it's just that I was struggling to set aside $100 per month, I can't even breathe thinking $100 + $50.

Did I want coverage in case I fell sick? Did I want to follow the crowd and buy for the sake of buying? Or did I only want my mum to shut up?! My mind was not clear. Don't call anyone if you are not clear what it is that you want. If you only want information, it's perfectly alright to ask an expert. But don't be unsure and buy something and then cancel. And definitely don't be like me back then. Get persuaded (coerced) into saying yes, and then running away like a chicken! That's wasting everyone's time!

Here's what I think we all need (How to Use Money To Make Money: Preparation Stage): To compile a set of your financial status, even in its most simple form. I may have graduated with a degree in banking but I don't specialize in financial planning. It is another skillset altogether. I adapted this from a questionaire that I got from Wee Wee's annual review form, plus I added in a whole bunch of stuff that I think we all need to get started on our financial sense journey. I'll like to share it with you and I hope that it will speed up your journey:
